Each year Millay Colony invites over 64 visual artists, writers and composers to our campus for a residency inclusive of private bedroom and studio as well as all meals. No fees are charged for these residencies. Residents are chosen anonymously by a panel of jurors. The application process is competitive and The Millay Colony accepts residents solely on the basis of artistic merit. Our admissions policy does not discriminate with regard to race, sex, sexual preference, religion, marital status, disability or nation of origin. We do not require references.

Selection of Residents
Applicants are recommended for a residency by juries of professional artists in the same discipline. The jury members change each year. After acceptance decicions have been made, we post the names and bios of our jurors on our Web site.
Notifications are sent out to all applicants by mid-January for the October deadline and mid-May for the March deadline. We can not let applicants know the status of their application ahead of time.
The Two-Week Residency: In order to accommodate artists who cannot partake of a month-long residency, we now offer two two-week sessions in June and September. These sessions function exactly as our longer sessions do, including private bedrooms/studios, and all meals.
The application process for the two-week residencies is the same as that for the month-long residencies. Applicants must note on their application form that they are looking for the two-week residency.
The Virtual Residency: The Millay Colony will award one Virtual Residency each year. This residency is specifically for working artists and/or artists with children who could benefit from the support of a residency in modified form. The ‘Virtual Resident’ can participate in one of The Millay Colony’s month-long residency on weekends or no less than four total days during that month at the colony and will receive a stipend of $1,000 to assist in securing time off/childcare/art supplies or other resources necessary to the making of new work.
The application process for the Virtual Residency is the same as that for the month-long residencies. Applicants will note on their application form that they are seeking a Virtual Residency.
The Group Residency: The Millay Colony awards two five-day Group Residency each year to a group of between three and seven collaborating artists. This is available to any artists groups, including but not only musicians and bands, publishing collectives, theater and dance troupes, galleries, etc.—or simply individuals collaborating on a project.
The basis for the application is work samples, a statement detailing the history of the collaboration or organization, and a project description describing proposed activities for the residency. The residency may be used to support the creation and dissemination of new or revived art works.
Please call 518-392-4144 if you would like more information, or email Calliope Nicholas at email@example.com.
