New Paltz, NY – Rick was born in Texas and grew up in the Gulf of Mexico Coastal region. Rick received a B.S. in Graphic Design at  Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of North Texas. His influences range from among others Joan Miro, Antoni Tapies, Paul Klee, Alberto Burri, Texan visionary painter Forrest Bess, Far Eastern calligraphy, and the philosophy of the Far East. Mr. Lewis has exhibited in Hong Kong, Indonesia, New York, and Texas. He has received numerous awards including a Carol Cook Foundation Arts award for excellence in painting. His artist in residency awards include the Edward F. Albee Foundation in Montauk, NY, the Millay Colony Residency in Austerlitz, NY and The Bali Purnati Center for the Arts in Bali, Indonesia. He has been invited to Yogyakarta, Indonesia for a residency and exhibition in Spring 2010. His work belongs to numerous public and private collections throughout the world, and has appeared in international periodicals and publications.
