The success of our arts education programs led us to initiate a conversation with the teachers and administrators at regional schools about how to further support their educational goals. As a result of these conversations, we have created Professional Development Workshops for teachers. All of our PD programs meet NY State and Massachusetts requirements. These training programs are held at The Millay Colony, in schools, and as field trips to local museums and art galleries. We can work in conjunction with each school’s specific needs in creating these workshops, whether it be helping students to generate material for the first draft, using the arts across curriculum to inspire creative responses to text, or even team building exercises for a teaching department.
To date we have offered the following Professional Development workshops:
*The Playful Image: Inspiring Students to Respond Creatively
*Facing the Blank Page: Helping Reluctant Students Generate Writing
*Finding the Groove: A Workshop for Writers & Teachers of Writers
Other workshops are available to bring to your school or to run here at The Millay Colony. Please contact Cara Benson at cara@millaycolony.org for more information.
Upcoming Workshops
Currently we are developing a Professional Development program for teachers in the Hudson City School District focused on using Poetry for English Language Learners. Read about the first workshop with Dave Johnson Using Poetry to Bridge Cultures!
