This place that Vincent called a paradise is a marvel to behold as Spring's drab grays and muddy browns give way to the brilliant emeralds and blazing scarlets of Summer. August heralds the end of the season in all of its sultry glory, as colors fade into gold under the shimmering sun.

Greetings from almost-Spring at Steepletop! Lots of news on the hill, including visits from a curious bear and hungry coyote, much to the delight of our March residents. 2022 started with a bang as we welcomed 60 participants to our Wintertide Rustic Retreat, the most we have ever hosted.

This Barnswallow presents a deep-dive into the experiences of seven of the 37 artists-in-residence who were selected to come to Steepletop in 2020. Reading the what, how, and why of their creative endeavors communicates an activist spirit along with a passion, sensitivity, and curiosity that speaks to the place and importance of artists in society.

We are extremely pleased to be present our inaugural PRIDE Issue of Barnswallow. We cherish the rich array of voices and experiences that our diverse alumni offer, a foundational hallmark of our residency program since its inception, and one we continue to expand and deepen, in terms of inclusivity as well as equity.

Highlights include sightings of a bobcat and mama bear with two cubs, EDNA 2017 and EDNA 2018, wild blueberry picking, social media takeovers by residents, fireside chats on summer evenings in the meadow (with or without whiskey), plans for new website and the making of our first ever video promotion.

It’s the end of October and through my office window, I can see the first snowflakes of the season swirling around Chef Donna’s garden. It’s been a truly fabulous year here at Millay Arts, with so many gifted writers, artists, and composers having stayed with us and enjoying the magic.
